Ferguson looking for Giggs replacement?

According to reports Sir Alex Ferguson will try and lure Adam Johnson to Old Trafford today which would serve up another blow for their rivals Manchester City who are also reportedly interested in our 22-year-old winger.

This latest development could be beneficial to the final fee for Johnson as it is reported that three top teams in the Premier League could now start a bidding war.

Johnson would be the natural replacement for Ryan Giggs on the left flank and could provide strength in depth as United look to conquer the Premier League and the Champions League. It is the Champions League that might be the persuading factor in Johnson’s eyes. With aspirations of making the World Cup in June, Johnson will be tempted to show what he can do on the biggest stage in club football.

We’ll keep a close eye on the latest Adam Johnson transfer saga.

Surely Adam Johnson wouldn’t be able to play in this season’s Champions League – don’t clubs have to register their European squad earlier in the season.

Good question Paul. UEFA allows an extra 3 places for teams to register new players but that deadline is today. He would be available to play if he signed for them today. No more news on this one though plus AJ is still in Middlesbrough training with the rest of the Boro squad.

How can Johnson get into the England team. We already have Young and Cole who are natural left sided players. Also, Gerrard has been playing on that wing along with the option of Milner, Lennon and Walcott.

Johnson will show how good he is at Man City. He’s an awesome player with bags of talent. He looked good in a Boro side that didn’t provide the service to him. He will be an even better player with excellent players around him. On current form AJ is miles better than Young, Cole is still coming back from a long lay-off, Milner (who is on fire) will play on the right or in the middle for England and Gerrard won’t be mucking about on the left. He will be in the middle with the captains armband on. Johnno has every chance of playing for England in the summer.
