The 1-0 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday meant that Aitor Karanka recorded 50 league clean sheets as Middlesbrough Manager. The half century of clean sheets in a century of games is an amazing record at any level or league, but with the competitive nature of the Championship, it does make this record even more impressive.
A huge congratulations to Aitor Karanka, Dimi in goal, the back four and of course and the hard-working players in the middle of the park, particularly Clayton and Leadbitter. The praise can’t stop there though. The whole team defends exceptionally well. Defending does start from the front and that coupled with our work-rate means we are a team that is capable of nullifying any attacking threat that comes our way.
With the clean sheets coming as second nature to the Boro players and being at the summit of the league table, it does put us in a great position going into the New Year. If Karanka’s defensive masterclass can be replicated in the second half of the season, then we will have a great chance to secure promotion.
